WIko Chippenham closes its doors – Chippenham Gazette & Herald
Why it matters?
It is sad to see yet another business go into administration. Now while the demise of Wikos is not a Chippenham issue but a wider issue with the running of the business, it does beg the question on the longevity of the highstreet. The need for a high footfall, and the loss of a draw like Wilkos, could cause a snowball affect. What is the answer for the British Highstreet? Is it the converstion of these buildings into residential flats, to bring people back to the town centre. Is the answer more businesses which encourage socialising combined with the conversion of some commercial property into resedential property the way forward.
We believe this is the future, but planning must consider against the restriction of conversion making a town centre financially unviable vs to much conversion an there not being enough property stock to support a balance. To be successful in real estate, you must always and consistently put your clients’ best interests first.
